What to see in Estella - Lizarra

Here are some places in Estella - Lizarra that you should not miss. In any case, you will find more information on the official tourism website of Estella - Lizarra: estellaturismo.com

The Basilica of El Puy is a modern church of original design, located on a hill overlooking the Lizarra district. It was built between 1949 and 1951. It is notable for its rhomboidal polygonal ground plan and star-shaped chancel. Opposite is an 18th century Baroque courtyard with a triple-arched portico and a brick belfry. Inside is the image of the Virgen del Puy, whose discovery in the 11th century gave rise to the temple.

The Plaza de los Fueros is the ideal starting point for exploring Estella. It is notable for its size and the presence of several interesting buildings. To the right of the church, a house with perfectly aligned latticed balconies, some of them adorned with geraniums, stands out. The Plaza de los Fueros in Estella has bars and the Church of San Juan Bautista. Around it, later buildings blend in with the church, creating an interesting contrast between tradition and modernity.

This bridge, built in the 1970s, attempts to preserve the style of the old Romanesque bridge destroyed in 1873. As you cross it, head towards the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, with a Romanesque doorway depicting scenes from the Passion. This street is frequented by pilgrims and is popular for sports and walking. If you look up, you will see the striking Convent of Santo Domingo, now an old people's home. Although you can't visit it, it's worth admiring from the outside.

Visit the Plaza de San Martín with its imposing Church of San Pedro de la Rúa and the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum in the Palace of the Kings of Navarre. Don't miss the Puerta de Castilla, a remnant of the old medieval wall.

Climbing

Apart from the climbing wall that can be enjoyed in Estella - Lizarra all year round, there is also the possibility of practising sport climbing very close to the campsite. In Eraul, 10km from the campsite, you can climb in the crags of San Fausto, with more than 100 routes from levels 4c to 7a. In Estella - Lizarra there is also a small crag with 40 routes.
